Jewelry

As a lover of bright colors in my childhood, I always played with colored beads. Their vivid

colors attracted me when in play I put them together in designs.

I later discovered I could bring my love of color not only to painting but to jewelry made from

the vivid beads I found in Africa and elsewhere. During my travels, I would combine the

beautiful “Kiffa beads” of Mauritania with the exquisite lapis and turquoise of Khorasan, and

the striking Malachite of Zaire and Zambia.

Those colorful stones, which I found in dozens of markets, became my means to transfer vivid

colors from one medium to another. They also became the settings of beautiful Ethiopian silver

ornaments, particularly the dozens of silver crosses from that amazing country.
